After a crazy May, full of big "bloggable" events, the summer so far has been fairly quiet. Nothing too big to report on - but still lots of fun activities to keep us busy. The only way I remember anything anymore is to go through my phone and camera. :)
First, the country club pool finally opened! I say "finally" because it should have opened weeks ago, especially as we hit 100 degree temps in MAY. The kids have really enjoyed swimming and the endless popsicles. Wesley definitely prefers to eat through the snack bag than get in the water.
Gia stayed an entire week with us after school ended, but I failed to capture photos. Most would have been blurry anyway, because they are on the
move when Gia is here.
One of our favorite little babysitters, Miss Kari, graduated (with honors!) from High School. She included us in her graduation celebration, and the kids loved meeting her family.
We have invested in a few new toys this summer: a new water table (big hit), sprinkler, and our neighbor has a little splash pad thing that the littles enjoy. We spend a lot of time outside.
Wesley has also confiscated several of the twins' toys from next door (like a cozy car, a lawn mover, etc).
We didn't do much on Memorial Day except spend time as a family and thank the dear Lord for all those men and women who sacrificed everything so we could live free.
And we ate a lot of treats. (Maybe drank a few beers.) :)
Last weekend rained every. single. day. We had to come up with some creative forms of entertainment (like painting cardboard!)
Everyone asks us if we'll ever get a pool, but we say "NOPE!" Why would we do that when we're so close to the club AND every single neighbor has a pool? We've crossed the street to cool off in one (with permission, of course!) a few times already.
Maryn and I had a Mother/Daughter afternoon one Friday, going to get manicures (her first professional one), cake pops, and then new flip flops. She's been begging me for "shoes like yours with the toe thing". While I could tell they bothered her as first, she seemed determined to wear them (and now has no problems with the "toe thing"). I loved that she navigated toward the bright rainbow ones, seeing as it's June. #pride :)
Some of our favorite people in town are moving back to Germany, making us very sad (but so happy for them, as they are returning to their homeland and family). Paul has been in Maryn's music class and PreK class for the past couple years, and she loves him. She always says that is he is "so, so silly" (I suspect they are silly together, because they are always making each other laugh.) We celebrated them at a party downtown with our friends.
My dear friend, Katy, threw herself a 35th birthday bash, proclaiming that it's a gift to cook all day and entertain friends. I'm glad, because the entire event was spectacular. All her good china, crystal, linens, plus delicious food.
Random: last Sunday I managed a great picture of all three kiddos. Rarely happens these days, because someone is always pouting or acting silly or refusing to look at the camera.
The town has started a few kids summer programs, like weekly library events and a discount movie series. Wednesday the kids got to do both - the Reptile Dude at the library with Ms T, and then a movie with Mama (WonderPark). The movie started 45 minutes after the posted time (leaving us all stranded outside in the heat and humidity, waiting...quite peeved...)
The Reptile Dude brought out a live rattlesnake at the library and about sent our poor daughter over the edge. (Funny story, I was on a conference call at work, but receiving texts from a friend who attended the library event. She kept reporting back on all the
venomous snakes out for display, but said that the man "seems to have them under control". James assures me this is very normal for South Georgia. WTH....)
People are crazy....
Anyway, great summer so far! We're ready for a fun weekend at the lake, a Father's Day celebration, VBS next week, and then it's nearly the 4th of July holiday (whaaaaaat?)
