I (Jennie) serve as the head writer and photographer for the blog. James is my editor-in-chief, which means he does very little on the blog except monitor the content for anything untruthful, political, or embarrassing to him. (That last part might be removed by my editor...) :)
To tell you a little bit about us, I thought it would be fun to ask pre-marriage Jennie and James to describe each other. (To explain, the words below originally appeared in March of 2009 on our wedding website - aka 'the original Sasser blog'.)
A few fun facts about my boy: James likes a lot of meat,
some Florida football programs (FSU, USF, and Tampa Bay), any type of news
outlet (but particularly Fox News - YIKES - and AJC.com), bourbon (Jack or
Jim), live music, State/National Parks/Forests, the Islands, the South,
efficiency, talented people, and very traditional church services. He dislikes
INTENSELY any type of bean and my cat Lupe. He also dislikes poor work ethic,
citrus fruit that comes from any place other than Florida, bad service at
restaurants, Indian and Ethiopian food, and bad manners.
People that know James, love James - and for good reason. He
is a man of such solid character, who redefines what it means to be loyal,
committed, and put others first. I never doubt how much he loves and supports
me (which is such a wonderful feeling!) I know I'm a lucky gal - God continues
to bless me.
Jennie (according to James) is my beautiful, smart, sweet, and
VERY patient Texas gal who never tires of trying to reform my stubborn Sasser
ways. For those who know Jennie, the passionate social liberal that she is, you
probably wonder how in the world we survived a first date! Over the years,
Jennie has taught me more than I could ever write in such a limited space….a
few of my favorites include:
1. You can still be Latina even though you have blonde hair, blue eyes and Anglo parents.
2. A calorie is a calorie no matter how big, small, or
“good” it is! You HAVE to count it.
3. Never say a bad word about Texas…a Texan will never
forget what you said and when you said it.
4. Lupe and Carmen (a.k.a. the cats) are part of the package
deal with Jennie.
All kidding aside, I am truly blessed to have Jennie Elizabeth Kerr as my bride-to-be. She is one of the most humble, honest and compassionate people that I have ever met. From the first time we met, to our philosophical conversations in New Mexico, to our first date at Georgia Browns, to the sacrificial move to Atlanta (I rode with the cats), and every day since she continues to amaze me. Her passion for life, her dedication to family and her patient love all make spending the rest of my life with her more than anything I could have dreamed of.
Ah, how sweet and optimistic about marriage were we?! I think we still feel the same way about every word that we said, right babe?
We met in the Summer of 2006 while both working on a large
transformation engagement with the US Forest Service out in Albuquerque, NM.
This project holds lots of great memories for us, including the beginning of
our friendship and lots of other friendships with some great people. After moving on to other projects, our friendship continued
until we finally had our first date in October 2006. I was living in DC, James
was living in Atlanta, we both traveled all over the country each and every
week...but we still made it work! After almost a year and half of long distance dating, James hauled all my belongings (plus the kitty girls) down south to Georgia. Ten months
later on a return visit to DC, James popped the question. Obviously, I said yes. (A Sasser blog wouldn't be much without that key fact.)
Ten months after that, on September 26, 2009, we got married at a fabulous party in Waco, Tx (also referred to as "our wedding"). Friends, family, BBQ, Shiner Bock, and a 60s band - it doesn't get much better than that when you tie the knot!
The last few years have honestly seemed like a whirlwind! A LOT of traveling for both of us - both work-related and fun-related; really good times with our family and friends; renovating a condo; buying a little 1920's bungalow and spending gobs of time on that; the addition of a fur-baby; the addition of three human babies; job changes; EMBAs; starting a new company, and, the latest, moving our family down to Middle Georgia. We feel blessed, blessed, blessed!
