A great honor, James was named one of the finalists for E&Y's Entrepreneur of the Year award.  We went up to Atlanta for the ceremonies and enjoyed some time with each other and friends at the swanky St. Regis.  While James did not win, we are SO proud of him and all he's done.

James and I spent the first night by ourselves, enjoying the St. Regis bar, Umi, and another St. Regis bar again.  I really should NOT have enjoyed that second St. Regis bar... :)

The next night we got all dressed up and celebrated with the McLeods and the Thompsons, who came down to help us honor James at the GovStrive table.

James won't let us brag on him too much, but he's a tremendous leader and visionary who has built his company from the ground up.  He deserves all the recognition that he receives!

Such a fun evening!  Thankful for the people who have supported him and us through it all, and looking forward to all that there is to come.

Love to James, too!

Amidst all the kid birthdays and birthday celebrations...our main guy also celebrated another year around the sun!  And we celebrate one more year together, as the original OGs of the family before all the kiddos joined us!

We're so thankful for you, James, and all that you do for our family.  It's hard to even think and write about all the big and little things you do to make our family what it is today.  You're aging like a fine wine and look better and better with every passing year!

Happy 46th Birthday to you, and Happy 14th Anniversary to us.  Appreciate that we celebrated both of these major events in small ways: between kid events, at lunch, whenever we could squeeze in time. It's just our phase of life right - and I'm grateful for every second!

Birthday Celebrations - James!

Poor James had to share his birthday weekend with the Pony Party, but we did try to make him feel very special on his actual birthday.  James' mother and aunt came down for the weekend and got to celebrate with us - starting with birthday pancakes; we brought in subs and caramel cake at the office; and then we all took him out to eat at Company Supply for dinner.

The kids had helped me pick out presents: a Dublin Football collared shirt (Maryn's idea after the first football game!) and then some night recording binoculars (JB approved).   Since Company Supply has a NOLA influence, we sang Happy Birthday (again!) over some beignets.  (Delicious!)

I forced a little family photoshoot with the birthday boy, too :)  He humored us!

Real Life!

And there's the winner :)

The next night, after the party, we let Gia and Aunt Wyllene babysit and went to the Dublin Farm with our good friends and neighbors (who also had a birthday to celebrate). We had a wonderful time enjoying a 4 course meal and bottle of wine, discussing the politics of the day in a beautiful setting.

We love you, James, and are so thankful that you are ours. You do so much for our family and I couldn't imagine living life without you.  Wishing you another 44 years of happiness and health!

Our COVID Story

So I ended JB's birthday post with our wrap up of a great September, and then we've moved into a slight dumpster fire of an October.  Just kidding, certainly not as bad as it could have been (we're grateful), but geez...

After feeling a little run down after JB's birthday, James decided that he should go get tested for COVID "just in case" on October 1st.  We were planning a very small party for JB on October 3rd, and with family and friends coming over - even outside - it seemed the prudent thing to do. And thank goodness he did, because the test came back positive.

SHOCKED US ALL.  James and I have been so careful.  James did attend one function that was questionable and we now know is where he caught the virus (as many, many others did, too). It goes to show - the safest, least risky route for our community is to stay home.

Looking back, that day is a total blur. I left work without saying a word to anyone, grabbed Maryn from preschool, got us tested, came home and we said bye to Ms. Therlon for 2 weeks, took the boys up to the doctor, then got home and processed.  Fortunately James was not feeling that bad after he tested positive, and me and the kids all tested negative.  James packed a bag and moved up to the garage apartment, and me and the kiddos stared at each other for a bit.  You better believe I started praying and texting my prayer warriors because I knew this Mama needed patience, calm, and peace of mind.  And, because He's faithful, I got it.

James started to feel bad the next day and it went downhill from there.  He ran a fever for 10 days, his body worked to fight the virus (leaving him pretty puny), and the mental toil of anxiety and worry should not be overlooked!  What a rough 2 weeks!  I felt helpless from afar, leaving his meals on the steps three times a day, FaceTiming with the kids throughout the day, and watching him sit far away while we played outside.  Again, the mental and emotional side of the illness...

BUT, thank God, James' symptoms (though tough) stayed in the "mild to moderate" range, and he never struggled with breathing issues.  And the kids and I never got sick (testing negative as we left our quarantine AND I tested negative for the antibodies, which absolutely shocked me.)

James and I celebrated 11 years of marriage on September 26th.  Our intentions were for a little anniversary getaway in mid October, when I usually write our anniversary post and all about how much I love this man of mine...

So obviously that did not happen.  And I'm not sure if a trip will happen this year.  But I don't even care about that. I am so, so grateful that he is healthy, that he made it through the illness without serious complications, and that he's back under our roof and with his family where it belongs.  Never take your health or the health of your loved ones for granted, not even for a second.

AND WEAR YOUR MASKS, STAY AT HOME, FOLLOW THE RULES!

Also, because I want to remember our two week quarantine period, photo dump for the days at home below.  What I had feared would be the longest, hardest two weeks actually felt like a true blessing and joy to me. Sometimes working Mamas can miss out on a lot of little things at home, and playing SAHM/Domestic Diva for 14 days felt pretty good.  I enjoyed the time and will treasure those special memories!

We cancelled JB's party, but I did NOT cancel
the bouncy house for the weekend!

Maryn proclaimed she wouldn't brush her hair
for our entire quarantine :)

We had picnics nearly every day for lunch.
Weather was GORGEOUS

Big Sister got ahold of the hair chalk...
