Maryn Elizabeth - 5 Months Old!

For some reason, it felt like Maryn was 3 months old for a really long time. (Maybe a long December, plus lots of activities and holidays).  It felt like Maryn was 4 months old for approximately 5 minutes.  And now she's FIVE months old!?

As I had hoped, she turned into a perfect little sleeper this month.  We didn't even have to do any sleep training.  I owe it all to the Merlin Magic Sleepsuit (I promise they are not sponsoring this post.)  She sleeps all night until 5AM when she needs someone to pop in her paci, then snoozes again till 7:30. She's a great napper, too.  I've been putting her down for naps or bedtime fully awake, always thinking I'll come back to check on her if she cries.  She never does and puts herself to sleep.  Bless that little girl.

They say to transition her out of the sleepsuit once she starts to roll on her tummy, but fortunately she doesn't seem too keen on rolling right now.  She'll kick her legs over to the side when she's playing, but that's it. During tummy time she rests her head instead of flipping over.  She's got a fairly strong core and can sit and "stand" fairly well with support, but she's pretty chill and doesn't make much of an effort physically.

I wonder if she's teething, as everything is going in her mouth.  She loves her hands, our hands, Sophie, toys, her bibs.  (She's usually doubled up on bibs, due to the spit up, so one is protecting her clothes and the other in her mouth!)  She still loves her paci when she's tired, but now likes to hold and chew on her paci when she's awake.  Let's see if month 6 brings a little tooth!

My travel this month forced the bottle issue, and she will now go back and forth between a bottle and Mama very easily (thank goodness!)  She still loves to nurse, and when I get home from a trip is content to stay attached to me for long periods of time.  She also rubs and kneads my (still squishy postpartum) belly like a cat while she eats, or will look up and just start laughing so hard I can't get her to finish eating.  It's the sweetest, sweetest thing.   She does not, however, like if other people (including me) talk while she's eating.  She will stop sucking and stare at you until there is silence in the room.  Girlfriend likes her ambience.

So here we go!  Maryn's five month stats!

Maryn's  Measurements:
  • Weight: 14lbs 14 ounces
  • Height: (tbd- we'll get the official stats next wellness visit!)

At 5 Month Old,  Maryn...

…Eats 5 times a day, at 7ish, 10ish, 1ish, 4ish, and 7ish.  She drinks 5 -6 ounce bottles without so much as a fuss now.  Maryn doesn't show any readiness signs for real food, so we'll wait till 6 months to introduce anything.

…Sleeps like the little angel baby that she is!  She's sometimes up at 5AM (for her paci) and 7:30AM (for the day), then takes roughly three 1.5 hour naps during the day at 9AM, 12PM, and 3PM.  She still requires a little cat nap at 6PM to make it to her bedtime, and usually she'll take that snuggled up to me in the carrier while I'm feeding JB.
…Wears 3-6 month, 6 month, and 6-9 month clothes. Still in size 2 diapers.  Nothing much has changed here, although I do think she's gained more length in her torso!

…Loves people, being held, when you tickle her (or clean her neck rolls, where she is super ticklish!), lounging on her back, bath time with her brother and invading her brother's space in the bath. (JB cries "Sissy, NO!  Sissy no touch me!" while Maryn laughs.  It's starting!)

…Does not like lounging on her tummy, too much time in the exersaucer, when you set her down and she wants to be held (see below)

Hold me, mama?
HOLD ME NOW!

Month Five - You are the sweetest little gal, Miss Maryn, and such a good little baby!
